Our book St Helena and Ascension Island: A Natural History has  been published by Anthony Nelson.  Philip's connection with Ascension dates from the time when he was a member of the British Ornithologists' Union Centenary Expedition to Ascension in 1958/59, when he studied the breading biology of the Wideawakes and Noddy Terns.  Our most recent work an Ascension has been on the fauna of the caves and lava flows.  We have also worked on the underground fauna of St Helena.  We have just been analyising a large number of soil samples that we collected on St Helena in 1994/95 in order to map the ancient seabird colonies.  We have done this previously for Ascension.

I am still working actively on the botany of St Helena.  Anthony Nelson have published my book The Endemic Flora of St Helena.
Dr Neil McCulloch

I am a member of the Conservation Science unit at the Northern Ireland Environment and Heritage Service and have previously worked for RSPB, BTO and BirdLife International.  I have also been involved in several bird conservation projects world-wide over the past 20 years. These have included long-term research on the St Helena Wirebird (charadrius sanctaehelenae).
Tara Pelembe
(Joint Nature Conservation Committee)

Originally from St. Helena, I am currently the Overseas Territories Officer at the UK's Joint Nature Conservation Committee.  Three papers on Ascension Island flora and fauna, to which I am contributing, are in preparation.  Papers already published are available online [http://www.ascensionconservation.org.ac/scipub.htm].

St Helena features as the 'ultimate island' and concluding chapter in my A Geography of Islands: Small Island Insularity (Routledge: London, 2001). I was part of the British government team to report on the fiscal and economic survey of Ascension Island in 2000.  A paper on this island during its period as a company colony from 1922-1942 appeared in 2004.
Prof. Dr Daniel Schreier
(University of Zürich)

I have undertaken extensive research into English on Tristan da Cunha and on St Helena.  For details see http://esweb.unizh.ch/es/staffpages/daniel.schreier.html
Dr Alexander Schulenburg
(St Helena Institute)

I am working on the history of the early settlement of the island and the history of slavery on St Helena constitute long term projects.  I am also working on papers on St Helena politics, on the St Helena General Workers Union, on the island's Liberated African Depot, and on St Helenian emigration to Cape Colony and Natal. I am preparing a demographic study of St Helena for a book on language on the island (edited jointly with Laura Wright).
Dr Laura Wright
